For those of you that celebrate Christmas, what is your favorite memory or tradition? I love Christmas and all that it means; and, I’m not talking about the retail side of it.
Growing up, Christmas was always a special time with my family. On Christmas Eve, we would sit down for dinner together, usually my Dad’s homemade chili. After dinner, we would head to church for the Christmas Eve candlelight service. Nothing like seeing all the candles lit up while hearing the words of Silent Night being sung. Then, we would come home, put a candle on the birthday cake we baked for the baby Jesus and sing Happy Birthday.
Of course, being a kid, I did really enjoy the Santa Claus and presents side of things (and still do!). On Christmas morning, I would be the first one out of bed and would be not so patiently waiting by the tree to open my presents. What kid isn’t?
One of my very favorite things about Christmas has always been decorating the house with everything that makes Christmas feel like Christmas. The smell of the tree, the twinkling lights, the beautiful ornaments and, of course, the nativity set.
I always loved getting my Mom’s nativity set out of the box, unwrapping each of the pieces and getting them set up just right. I remember asking her each year about each of the pieces and hearing her explain what each one meant.
